Very minor issues with fit, but no two dogs are alike, so most products have this issue. We've used it a couple times, and it works well. Chest and belly not nearly as chewed up as used to be before using the skid plate.

With the weather so dry, the weeds were just raking Bree's chest and stomach raw after just one trip. My husband heard about skid plates, so we order one to try. After one trip with the protection, I could see an improvement. I had rubbed her chest and stomach with lavender to aid in healing, but the skid plate was a great way to protect her and keep her safe.

More important than me liking it, my dog seems to like it. Being a French Brittany, she is short and running through stubble and thorny areas would scratch her up and make her tentative. As soon as she realized it didn't hurt with the skid plate on she is charging through everything fearlessly. I definitely recommend this product. It performs and fits well.

I have only used it once so far, and it has worked as well as I would have expected it to. It goes on easily and fits my dog really well. He doesn't seem to mind having it on, and it doesn't hinder his movement. With the level of energy my dog has while he runs through the field, some type of skid plate is a necessity.

I ordered a medium for my 50 lb Brittany Spaniel. I had to have a 2 inch extension added to the straps, because it was super tight around her stomach area, and she was uncomfortable when laying down because it was so tight. My dog is a little fat, so I should have ordered a large-no big deal. I love this skid plate because it does keep the briars off her underside, and it makes her visible in the thickest brush. Highly recommend for the average Hunter.

This is my 2nd Mendota skid plate....The first one I got for my oldest female Britt, and this one is for her "New offspring daughter"......This is an excellent, durable, well made skid plate.....doesn't bother my Britt in the slightest, protects her chest, breathes well. Not to overheat and gives me peace of mind!

Cami loves to go hunting, and she runs through every kind of brush there is. She comes home with her underbelly so torn up that we couldn't take her out for a few days. Now she goes and only comes home with birds. The only thing that I don't like is her legs rub on the front straps, but that is still much better than before.

The Skid Plate I received has blaze orange straps (very good idea). It does what it is designed to do and works very well for my Vizsla. The only addition I would/have make to my vest is add a D-ring so I can put a lead on it.

Good fit. Protects the chest area well. Open on top so it helps keeping the dog from overheating. Others I have tried really retain the dogs body heat. It's early season hunts that is problematic.

Easy to fit; dogs don't fight it. Provides good protection without the heat and chaffing. Much better than neoprene products that chaffe and wear sores on your dogs.

This is the best skid plate I have found for my Pudelpointer. The connection point that lies on the top of the shoulders rubs a bald spot in very short order. This problem was eliminated by sewing some faux fur material around the plastic connection point.

The Skid Plate fit almost perfectly out of the package. Dog had recent ultrasound, so I wanted to protect his undercarriage while he participated in a recent tower shoot. He sustained not a scratch, and it kept his belly clean too. We'll never hunt again without it!

My Springer is a 52 pound male. I purchased a size Medium. The fit was perfect. The skid plate performed as expected. My dog "Buddy" adapted to wearing the skid plate without any problem. Pros: Good protection of lower body; Reduction of burrs and bramble in Buddy's coat; No problem with dog over heating. Cons: I did not purchase this sooner.

We needed a skid plate to protect our spaniel's undercarriage while in the field (and to help keep him cleaner). I researched different options, and am glad that I chose this one. Unlike a lot of other dog gear, the measurement guidelines were accurate, and we got a good fit the first time we put it on him. He doesn't like things under his tummy, but was able to forget about it when his nose turned on. I inspected him later and didn't see any chaffing. It looks like it is made out of good material that will last, too.

Excellent product. Have been using for a year now with no problems. Good quality material. Being rabbit dogs in the brush all the time, it really protects my dog's underside from getting cut up. The straps keep everything in place, while preventing my dogs from overheating in warmer months.

The vest seems to be made well, but it rubbed off the hair in between my dogs front legs and made the area raw, so I had to stop using it after the second day of the hunt. The same thing happened to another dog that we used it on. I suppose it would be fine if you only used it for a day or two.

The skid plate is very durable and protects the underside of my dog very well. However it rubs around the top of his neck and inside of his chest to the point that he is raw. He is a freak of a vizsla, so I have been told by akc breeders, and is very tall. I got the xl but it still rubs. I would recommend this product for its visibility and durability.

Used the Skidplate constantly when my setter was young and fast. Saved his life and $1000s in vet bills over the years. I haven't used it much in his later years. He slowed down a bit and began going around cactus and corn staubs instead of through them. But I still carry it in my vest. Last Chukar hunt, he stepped in hole and broke his leg. We were 3 miles from the truck. I stuck a stick through the top straps of the Skidplate and tied some paracord to my vest straps and easily carried him out. Saved by skidplate at the age of 11! Get one, use it, you'll be glad you did.

Pros: Adjustable, appears well made.
Cons: Doesn't cover enough of the underside of a dog. I bought this for a dog that had pups a few months back to protect her nipples, etc... It is too narrow to provide full protection...nipples are still exposed with it on. It would be easier to adust if leather straps and buckles were used instead of nylon straps and plastic fasteners. Other items I've had with the plastic fasteners eventually break...don't know if this one will or not, but metal buckles would be easier to adjust and more durable.

Skid plates are a must to keep your dogs stomach from getting raw from corn stubble to multi-flora rose. I've used them for five years and will continue to do so. A hunter prepares himself with proper brush pants or chaps, don't forget your dog is your key component to a successful hunt...protect them!

I have used the Mendota Skid Plate for three years. It is a wonderful product and protects the dog very well. It is also very durable. The dog know when the skid plate goes on, it is time for business. The only thing that I would like to see on the skid plate is for the straps to be blaze orange as well as the vest, so that my dog looks less like a deer.
