The Alfa 32 caliber and 22 caliber are the current "go to" pistols for track and field starting. They are durable and reliable and with proper care, can last a lifetime. Being my first purchase of one of these pistols, I searched far and wide on the internet for a good source. I was lucky to find and purchase one from Gun Dog Supply located in Massachusetts; GDS is owned and operated by the Snell family. I don't use the starter every day so having a case for it will help keep it in good condition. I use this as the starter pistol for track meets at school so the less exposed the revolver is, the better. The holster seems to have two positions. The holster doesn't fit in the gun case.

Had the gun for about 6 years now and use it for starting track races. When I first got the .32 cal. I had few issues unless I didn’t clean it well. Now it seems like it I can’t make it passed 1 shot without getting jammed due to paper wods from the shells getting stuck in the chamber. I do not recommend this gun. If it didn’t have the narrowed chamber in the cylinder then I would recommend this to anyone. When it worked it was a great gun but would only take about 20 shells before it needed thorough cleaning.

I purchased the Alpha .32 caliber blank pistol after speaking with a number of my track & field colleagues concerning their experiences with the same gun. Although I have not had the chance to use my new Alpha that much yet, it has so far lived up to the hype that I received. It is a very solid quality made gun and the ease in ordering and shipping were awesome. I’m looking forward to years of enjoyment starting races on the high school tracks. This my second Alfa .32 starters pistol. The first one lasted 4 years before needing repair. It lasted another year before locking up again. I definitely got a "bang" for my buck. During an average spring track season I normally work 20 to 25 meets. There are days when I fire this gun at least 50 to 60 times depending on the type of track meet I am working. It was a no-brainer for me to go with another Alpha.

I have two of these I use for track and field. Much better than the cheaper models. Trigger pull is very comfortable, finish has held up well to black powder (clean appropriately) blanks. Definitely worth the $40-50 additional cost over the cheap versions which with the heavy trigger pull and awkward size grip (at least for me) make it very hard to quickly shoot again in case of false starts. Also a better deal here than most other places as the price is lower and includes a sturdy leather holster.

I am a track and field starter. I ordered the Alfa .32 Caliber Blank Starter Pistol for starting races. I do love the Alfa and would recommend it to T and F Officials. Note that one needs to be careful of the opening at the end of the barrel when firing it. It even fires the crimp type of blanks. Thanks Gun Dog Supply.

Hi GunDog. I am a starter who works in the DC area officiating track and field meets. I needed a starter pistol for that purpose. I have ordered two starter pistols from your company. They both works like a charm. There are some new blanks out there and don't work with some starter pistols. The one that I recently bought from you fires them without a problem. Very nice construction, should last a long time. The gun feels good in your hand, and the action is very much like an actual pistol. It's also reliable, no jamming and getting caught up as with cheaper models. Pull the trigger, and it works. In my mind, this is very worth the money.

I didn't buy the gun for training dogs, just for starting track meets, but if what you're looking for is a loud sound, you certainly will have that in spades. The workings of the pistols are smooth and it will work flawlessly.

Got this pistol as a back-up, as I do starts for track and field. The season is currently over, but some of my colleagues use this model, which is why I chose it. I examined my kit when I received it, and it appears to be top rate, very well made. The accessory package and the price make this purchase an excellent one. I'll be using it soon, as I also do starts for cross-county. Before then I'm sure that I'll take it out and break it in, probably while on a hike with the vizslas. I'm if not satisfied with it, GunDogSupply will be the first to know. But I really can't imagine that happening!

As a track official, I was using an older starting pistol that did not work well with Pyro shells. The Alfa .32 worked great at the two meets I did with it. It is much easier to load and remove shells, and there are no loose parts.

Purchased starter gun to use to start track and field events. It will need to a meet a standard of shooting an average of 45 shots 4 to 5 times per week during the track and field season. Most weeks I will fire it to start 200 - 250 races. Hope it can meet that standard!

I use it for starting track meets. It's the only gun I could find. The swing out cylinder is very cumbersome. It is also hard to close the cylinder so it is fully engaged. Maybe because it's new? (I hope) In general, I don't like it as much as my old NEF starter pistol. As stated before, I wasn't able to find any other choices. These guns are probably like the .32 cal. blanks, not many made anymore.
