I like the reduced size over the previous model. Several years ago I purchased a similar Sport Dog model (I forget the number) from Gun Dog Supply. I noticed immediately, as did my dog, that the stimulation level of the collar changed during our outing. Sometimes it would notch up several levels and elicit a shock that got way too much reaction and sometimes it would dwindle to nothing--even when turned all the way to the highest level. My dog does not need a reminder often, but when she does her response needs to be immediate. I experimented with setting the receiver to each of the three default levels and did not see a consistent performance of the collar. I tested the stimulation level before and after each outing on myself. It almost never was consistent at the beginning and the end. After attempting a troubleshoot with Gun Dog Support, they sent a replacement set. Much to my dismay that set had the same problem. I relented that it was just a defect of the product as a whole and hoped and prayed I did not have to use the stimulation on my dog. When the old set stopped working altogether, I went to Gun Dog Supply. The reviews on this newer model where overwhelmingly positive with no mention of the same problems I and my dog had experienced. So I ordered this set. Much to my continued dismay, this set has the same issue. Although the stimulation level swings aren't as wide, they still are not the same going out and coming back. I am disappointed. I rated it Average only because I didn't want to rate it Bad. I guess 2 1/2 stars would be my true rating. My dog is a pet, but with her champion breeding, she loves to hunt when she is off leash in the sticks and hinterland. every once in a while she needs just a nick to get her attention...not a jolt. I can't believe I am 3 for 3 with a bad set...hasn't anyone else had this experience?

I truly was at wits end of training a non stop barking dog when our dear Picasso would see another dog. Many classes and hours of yelling to say the least! With much reading of your site and products, decided it was time for a collar. I was very surprised that the cost was not nearly what I expected. I purchased the SportDOG FieldTrainer SD-425 . He was a completely different dog with in the first day (only level 1 and trust me he is a strong pitbull terrier). We have now have him off a leash in yard going to out to the bathroom on his own with only occasionally using the vibrate and mainly just the tone button for come. He has barked only 3 or 4 times in past 14 days of seeing other dogs and has made our lives as dog owners so much more enjoyable. Works awesome. Very easy to use, controller is small but fits nicely in hand. Behaviours have been fixed within a couple times of using it and only have to press tone 98% of the time. Even stops him from running away to other dogs. Collar fits well, using long prongs and contacts work well. User manual and training manual/disc provide insight and facts I didn't know about basic training. I used this knowledge to change how I give or reinforce commands and has paid dividends. This e-collar is an excellent tool if used correctly. My Geman Sheperd Dog had professional obedience training, but was still stubborn in some areas. The SportDog Field Trainer SD-425 was a valuable tool to help in those areas. My GSD is now amazingly obedient. We rarely ever have to use a correction when his collar is on! Great Product when used with common sense and love!

The best training device I have ever bought. It is small and fits in your hand easy to carry. The vibrate/tone is a plus I haven't had to use anything stronger. Great product, thanks Steve.

I previously had a Tri-Tronics sport series, which I liked, but when it died after a few years, I thought I would try something new. The SportDog collar is thinner, and the unit is smaller, but the prongs seem marginally longer. The handheld unit is quite small, which I like. And the SportDog allows both tone and vibe, which I like, as I prefer not to stim/shock the dog when possible. The range isn't as long as the Tri-Tronics, and I'm not sure I'd the units, which have rubberized covers over the charging ports, would be as waterproof as the Tri-Tronics, but there have been no problems so far, and the price, convenience, and size of the unit are real selling points.

The collar works like a charm, and all we have to use is the tone or vibrate mode!

I cannot say enough about this system. I have been through two hunting season, and I train daily. I have had no problems with it. The transmitter and collar are both lightweight.

So far, so good. Didn't realize I needed to plug it in if I wasn't going to use it for days, so it was dead when I went to use it. Charged in 2 hours, as promised. The collar is perfect for my 31 lb Brittany. May be small for a larger breed. The videos are good for a first time ecollar user. Directions easy to follow (in booklet). The handheld controller is very easy to use and fits my girlie hand. Will also be ok for you manly men!

Love the unit. Simple. Surprised by how small and comfortable the handset is. Easy to program. Can't say a negative about performance, but collar is not great for a long haired dog. A tad thin and narrow, making it difficult to put on. Will be easier with his summer buzz cut I hope.

Our dog was trained young and obeyed basic commands well until recently. He was one of a litter from a stray, and one of his brothers went to relatives nearby. The two probably never socialized sufficiently outside their litter, so puppy-play has morphed into somewhat aggressive play that freaks out many other dogs and definitely non-dog people. Lately when off leash (which almost always), he has taken to bolting, so I needed a way to reinforce his previous obedience skills. Using the methods from the DVD to introduce the collar over a few weeks has worked. He sees the collar and expects it's time to play. I now feel confident that when distracted by people or other dogs, I can have him sit-stay before he bolts and he obeys. I recommend the collar to anyone who is willing to have patience and work diligently to have fun developing their dog's discipline.

Love the vibration! Dog responds instantly to the vibration. Haven't needed anything stronger.

My dog understands fast. I only use the tone and vibration. I really like it. I did not use it when I go walk in the woods, but I will try it later.

My yellow lab was great with all his commands while in the house. However, take him outside, and it was as if I was not there. He would not come when I would call him, and it was like he never heard the word "NO" before. He would come back whenever he felt like it. I decided my Goober needed a training collar system. I researched many collar systems and found this system had everything I was looking for. I have been using the SD-425 on the lowest setting, and I have to tell you, it works great. While outside, Goober has gone from not listening, to obeying all his commands, especially "NO" and "COME." Now, I rarely have to press a button. This system is setup so you can start off on the lowest setting and work up to more intense settings, if your dog needs it. Goober never had to advance from the lowest setting. The system is easy to use, and I feel it was worth every penny I spent.

This training collar is exactly what everyone should use. I put it on my 3 month old pup when she started to get rough with my other dogs. Two factory set bites and a strict no was all it took for her and lasts a few days before just getting the collar out does the trick. In the field she is a natural, and just having it on her makes her a better minding/listening dog. Its size is perfect for even little dogs or pups with a short attention span. Great Choice. Works great. I really love the long contacts that was included with it. Having a GSD, these really work. So easy to use. I took it to my professional dog trainer for him to show me exactly how to use it. Great for off leash training. For the money, it's a great buy. Would definitely recommend it.

He's happy, enjoying more time with us outside, and his obedience is incredible. I rarely have to turn the dial past vibrate after the first day. We now love taking him outside with us around the neighborhood and walking and playing together is a joy. I highly recommend reading the info that comes with it and watching the DVD. That was very helpful. Even with some minor hiccups on our part (learning when and how much stimulation to use), he still did great. He knows the collar means playtime now. We love it!

She is only 10 months, but doing well with it!

So far, so good (2 weeks). I purchased two SD-425 collars, one for each dog (age 2.5 yrs) since their personalities are SO different. I was concerned that I would be constantly switching dials and confusing buttons. I am glad I purchased two. I purchased these products to mostly cure unwanted behavior in our back yard/garden. We are making GREAT progress. We are pretty much at the point where I can give a verbal command with the tone or vibrate mode only without the nick mode to re-direct their undesirable behavior. I am finding that my obedience trained pups are on task with their commands as well which is a bonus. The next step is to move to the trail off lead using the e-collars to re-direct the pups when they are really distracted. I am also looking forward to our upcoming camping season with the pups coming along. I was very hesitant to use e-collars and did a lot of research before deciding on these valuable tools. I am happy with my investment, and the service that Gun Dog Supply provided for my two adored pets. One suggestion I have is to sell different colored lanyards to match the different colored collars available to purchase. It was the numerous positive customer reviews and phenomenal website that led me to this product and company to make my purchase.

We bought the SportDog Trainer for the Beagle mainly. I have had it on the beagle mix too. It does exactly what I needed it for. When we are outside, the Beagle does not listen at all, even though he has been worked with consistently. He listens in the house, but outside it is like I do not exist. Now with the SportDog Field Trainer, I can get his attention and get the results I was looking for. Thank you, this product has probably saved this dogs life. I was afraid he was going to go running into the road.

I love that it has so many options from tone to vibrate or to stimulation. It's working very well for us and our dogs.

It works, and I can feel it on myself when I test it. However, quite often it does not work on the dog. I'm sure it is because of his winter coat. Other than shaving his neck, I'm at a loss for what to do. I've tried the longer prods; putting it on very tight, moving the prods back and forth to make contact and increasing the stimulus. When it is in contact he reacts to the lowest setting. Suggestions are appreciated.

Dog was wild all the time. She is coming around very nicely now. I am very happy with the collar. I do not overuse it.

After just one day with this e-collar, Chloe now enjoys playing ball at the park, sitting on the front porch and exploring in the front yard, and play dates with other dogs! Before we purchased the collar, Chloe would take off running towards a very busy street anytime she got out of the back yard! This collar has ensured Chloe's safety and has given me peace of mind and a daily joyful experience with Chloe that I never thought we would achieve. One day with the collar, and using just the "nick" button, and Chloe is able to understand what I have been trying to communicate with her.

My 7 month old dog Duey was already relatively trained with the basic commands, but wasn't consistent with following them every time. The Sportdog E-Collar has made the difference between 2-3 commands and him following it the first time every time. I recommend this product to every dog owner.

This product seems very well-made, not flimsy or cheap at all. Operation of the remote is easy. I love that it is difficult to inadvertently turn the stimulation up. My dog took to it very quickly. After a couple times getting a level 1 nick, he understood what the warning beep meant. Now, most times, I only have to beep it and say the command. It has been a lifesaver for us. I would highly recommend this product! Make sure you read the training manual though. It was very helpful.

Within four days my dog was coming when called. She didn't even try to chase the deer or horses. I didn't have to go higher than a three on the collar! After the first four days I don't even have to push the button. Very impressed. I did think the actual collar would be a stronger plastic. Hope it holds up. Overall, I love the collar.

My dog Duke is 5 months and was beginning to test his boundaries in the backyard and was also beginning to jump up at visitors. I got this collar mainly for training during walks/hikes. Duke is very responsive to the vibration and tone functions of the collar. So much so that I haven't had a need to move up to stimulating. I really enjoy this collar, and I am very pleased that I purchased it. Training will continue and maybe Duke will be up for some competitions.

Excellent! In the first day my dog change some bad behaviors, such jumping and chewing. The device is very robustus, and the rechargeable battery is good for almost all week with just two hours for full charge. I recommend this product and this store!

Good range. The vibrate feature is nice. My dog has learned to respond to it alone. I ended up having to use the longer contact points, so I'm glad they were included. I also like the smaller collar receiver. I tested the collar on myself; I wanted to know what my dog would feel at the different settings.
