I'm very satisfied with this e-collar. My two Redbones are conditioned to return to me when I hit the vibrate button. The shock button turns them away from deer, etc...

Steve-
I would rate it very good to excellent now, The original one I got, the numbers on the dial wore off quickly, but I was able to replace the unit for I believe $50 or $100. Also, warn people to use a plastic zip tie to attach the controller to the lanyard......mine came off in a pond, and fortunately, I was able to find it (mostly luck)...., now I use a small plastic zip tie to keep it on the lanyard. Overall, a good value for the $. Jim

This is an AWESOME tool. My Beagles attitude changed within one walk and training. He is SO MUCH happier that he can run free in the back yard. Our property was simply not conducive to an electric fence, plus it's great for walks around the common area of our neighborhood. He has been confronted with very tempting encounters of which we have been able to maintain control. A great product. Thanks for your advise on your site and the excellent customer service!

I've been using training aids on my hunting companions (pooches, not people) for several decades. The SD 1825 is the best I've had. It's lightweight, waterproof, easy to use, holds charges well, and has good range. For single/double dogs, it's all I use now.

This E-Collar is nothing less than an exceptional piece of equipment. The range is exactly as advertised, and the quick adjustment of stimulation level is priceless. As with every electronic I purchase, I was skeptical as to how "waterproof" it actually was. Opening day of duck season in 2010, the remote fell out of my chest waders. My hunting partner and I searched for about an hour, until we gave up and wrote it off as a loss. 15 minutes later, after the murk had cleared from the water, I spotted the remote laying on the bottom of the river under 2' of muddy water just off the dog platform. I picked the remote off the bottom of the river, and it functioned as though it had been dry all day. I no longer have any doubts of the quality of Sportdog products, and highly suggest them to anyone looking for a product that will perform under the worst of conditions.

I had previously purchased the Sport Dog 1800 years ago, so the 1825 was not so different for me. However, I really like the new slimmer style to the collars, and they are MUCH lighter as well! The range also seems to be better, and not stopped by as many hills, trees, etc., as happened with the earlier unit. Although I haven't had the unit long enough to appreciate the new 'low battery' warning lights, I like that that is included now, as before I would just have to assume low battery when the efficiency was lost.

It worked well, but not as well as my old Tri-Tronics. Battery needed recharging more often than I felt it should, and the low level wasn't as low as the old Tri-Tronics. On the other hand, very nicely compact, good range, and easy to manage the controls.

I have 1 transmitter with 2 collars. I've had the set for about 1.5 years and I love it! Lately, however, I'm having trouble with 1 of the collars making contact with the charger during charging. I have to fiddle with it to get it to charge. Were it not for this issue I would rate it excellent.

It does a very good job for the limited functions provided. In retrospect, I think I should have purchased a product with more functionality.

I bought the SD-1825 to use on hikes in the wood with my dog Jax. He has a serious prey drive and was often too distracted by the good smells and sounds of the woods to hear me calling him back. The last straw and reason I purchased the electronic collar was an expensive run-in with a porcupine. After training with the collar, Jax is much more responsive to my requests, and only occasionally do I have to employ a very low level of shock. He has more freedom than he would if confined to a leash, and our hikes in the woods are very enjoyable.

Great range on unit. Love the ability to add another dog or two when I'm ready. It's waterproof to boot. Charges in a few hours and lasts for an entire hunt Trained my stubborn Springer fairly quickly.

Collar is ok, Remote is kind of bulky. Waterproof remote and rechargable remote are good features. Customer support is good, but I did get 3 defective products in a row before I got one that worked and charged consistently. Overall happy, but frustrated with the run of defective collars.

The SD 1825 came recomended by the person from which I purchased my field lab. As an avid bird hunter, the 1825 has all the features I need, range, reliability, durability, all weather, waterproof, and expandability. I purchased a second dog and it was easy to add the second receiver.

Very reliable, I bought a second collar because of the performance of the first. Only negative thing to say is that the vibrate tends to get softer as the battery starts to wane and is weaker on the older collar vs the new one.

Awesome is all I can say. I have a four year old male non-neutered Weimaraner, 115 lbs and solid muscle! For myself, this collar is a wireless leash with voice command usually respected with one or two corrections. Most times I do not even have to recall Kaiser back. I use the audio beep option, and he will, nine time out of ten, come out and make eye contact. And if I whistle or give another audio beep, he halls his butt back. The only negative I have is that the battery in the collar gave out in about two years (they claim three to five), and it took a special tool to remove the manufactures specialty screw. But heck, what manufacturer, now days in the world, does not use good old fashion hex bolts, flat head or phillips screws to secure their product. Hope this helps solidify your decision and best wishes to you and your canine companion.

Great collar. Has worked perfectly for three years of almost daily use. The best thing about it is that you can customize it to fit how you like to train, and whatever works best for your dog. I can't say enough good things about this collar.

Excellent training tool. Comes with a DVD that helped me shape my 1yr old dog into a fun-loving, listening animal that everyone wants to be around. The DVD was key in putting together the whole training system. Well worth the money.

The initial transceiver and collar never worked correctly. The company ultimately sent me out 2 different collars and a new hand unit before the system signaled or received correctly. It has been working fine almost daily for over a year now. I am certainly satisfied with its performance. It was easy to train my dog and he responds with just the tone even at great distances. The staff with Sport Dog were very helpful and accommodating (with the exception of one pseudo-intellect that told me the problem might be from me keeping the battery charged). Everyone else was super! Rating would be excellent except for the initial issue.

Overall, I have been quite happy with my SD-1825. I use it in single dog mode, and it works as advertised. Check back in a year for feedback on two dog mode. The reason I deducted a star was I initially had problems with the receiver battery. The manufacturer replaced the battery immediately. As always, Gun Dog Supply was fast and efficient with my order.

This is my first e collar, and now that I have one I can't believe I waited so long. The SD1825 is idiot proof...I had never used a collar when this arrived, and it is very user friendly. I have a Boykin Spaniel, and the collar fits her very well and has helped her go from an OK dog to a great dog.

Great. Super reliable, excellent build quality. Definitely worth the money.
Like a lot of novice users, I started with the collar too loose, which made for erratic contact. Since I figured out the fit, it has been quick work training with this collar.

I've been meaning to write to you about the Sportdog product. We had used other shock collars in the past and found them to be not only clunky, but prone to breakage, or antenna loss, or battery failure. This caused us a lot of grief in the field with a very hard-headed English Pointer. When we got a new Vizsla puppy, I wanted to be sure, and do everything right, and from the get go it was obvious that she was a very sensitive and responsive dog, so I wanted a collar that would suit her temperament, and be a better overall product than our previous purchases.
I read the manual and training instructions thoroughly and started out slowly. Just wearing the collar took her awhile to adjust to. The beep function is awesome. None of our old collars had this. If she doesn't respond to a verbal command, or is out of range of our voices, the beep clues her into us immediately. We virtually never have to apply any shock to her. The charge seems to last forever, and the unit is small and easy for her to wear. And there is no antenna to fall off! The handheld controller is small and well designed. It works not only for me (I have small hands), but for my husband as well, and he is always the first to point out flaws in any design.
Last year, the last remaining original collar that we used on the English Pointer finally lost its last antenna, and the old pointer is one we have to run with a collar on. So we bought another collar and programmed it to run from the one controller. This is really handy, and since the primary level of shock is set in the collar and not the control unit, we don't err as badly when there is an inadvertent shock applied with the lever in the wrong position. (We of course try to never have this happen, but it has on occasion.)
We did have a problem with the add-on collar within the first few months of owning it. It would not hold a charge and would show recharged in 20 minutes, but wouldn't even beep. I contacted you, and you gave me the number to call Sportdog directly. Wow. I was So Impressed with their responsiveness! I forwarded them my invoice (email), and I had a new collar in a week. They didn't even have me send the old one back. We have had no problems with the new one, but it's great to know that if there is a problem, it will be remedied quickly and painlessly. I also like that each collar has a different color band (one is hunter orange and one is fluorescent green), which makes it easy to tell them apart.
I recommend this product 100%.

This has been the best e-collar I've had for my dog. I love that I can customize the set-up for what works best with my dog, that the receiver is small enough to be unobtrusive, and that there are enough holes in the collar, so I can get the fit just right. This has been a wonderful solution for my needs. Well worth the money.

The equipment was easy to configure and works as advertised to date. The only quibble I have is with the training manual. My local trainer prefers (and I agree) to just have the dog wear the collar for 3-4 days, then use it only for recall (get the dog distracted, and then when she doesn't immediately respond to a recall, 'nick' accompanied by a tug on a long-line, then pulling her to you, where she gets a treat) for a week, then use it for other training. I purchased this unit and two collars for my Great Danes. Training was extremely easy, as my dogs already knew the commands and only needed to learn to associate the ringer & vibrator to the desired action. They now respond to stimulus at long distances without my needing to yell. I dropped the handheld into water, and it survived a ten minute submersion without issue.

Great collar! Easy to use. The controls are right where they should be, making it easy to adjust without looking. The collar has a wide range of adjustments, making it perfect for BOTH my dogs. A very stubborn Rottweiler and a Chocolate Lab that is a bit sensitive and skittish. Charging is pretty fast, and the batteries have held up just fine. Collar is close to 2 years old and not one problem.

System works great; can take the dog (treeing walker coonhound)anywhere and she listens; even if on scent or treeing. Can trust her to go out and come back with just lite reminder signal no problem. She would not come at all before the collar and now can take her anywhere off leash. Never have to use a harsh signal with her. She will even sit and stay when told if she is far away. Great system for great dog.

I have an Anatolian Shepherd. If you know anything about the breed, you'll know they are very intelligent and independent. This breed has remained unchanged for a thousand years and are considered a national treasure in Turkey, where their primary purpose is to guard the flocks of sheep and goats while they graze in the mountains. They are left alone for months at a time, with no supervision and no food [they catch their own food]. Suffice to say, this dog has a mind of his own, and even with repetitive, continual training, he responds to commands at his own pace. I live in a rural area with lots of woods and pastures. I like to take him with me when I travel around my 100 acres. He would stay with me while I was out. But as soon as I started on my way home, I would have to put a leash on Barney, or he would take off. Even when I thought I had him trained to a point where I could trust him, he would obey a couple days, but then the next time take off. When he takes off that would mean I would have to drive up and down the road looking for him. Sometimes I would get a call from a neighbor saying Barney was there visiting.
This couldn't go on. Sometimes I use an ATV when I have chores on a far end of the property. I had to make a choice. Leave Barney behind, or find a better way. I went online and did some research. I found the Sportdog SD-1825 at Gun Dog Supply and gave it a try. After getting it, I read the directions thoroughly and tried it out. Barney is a big dog. He weighs in at 130 lbs. More than once I was dragged through thorn bushes while walking him on a leash, and he saw a rabbit or squirrel. After using it the Sportdog SD 1825, only TWO TIMES, Barney started listening to commands. Now I take him everywhere with me, no leash, and I never have to worry. Even when tempted by a rabbit or squirrel or a deer, as soon as I call him he stops and comes back. He always stays in sight. And when I let him wander out of my sight, just a buzz of the audible on the collar brings him back.
I consider this a miracle. Thanks.
