2nd SD 1825, love it. Use daily for runs in urban setting for safety. 1st unit lasted 4 years before transmitter failed. Outstanding unit. I purchased a Garmin Alpha for hunting and wish I would have held out for the SD GPS unit. The Garmin is not as easy to control without looking at it.

Excellent product. Our Husky responds to the vibrate mode we programmed. She is a working Ski-Joring dog, it really helps with her training. Super happy with the Sport-Dog product! The customer service was key to making this product so great as they really helped me to set it up and understand features/functions on it. Very Satisfied customer- u guys rock!

This is my second order for the SD-1825. The first was ordered several years ago (at least 6) and has worked superbly ever since. Everyone I run into is impressed with my dog as he is 'so well trained.' It was easy to do with the help of the SD-1825. I only order from Gun Dog Supply as Steve has absolutely THE BEST customer service I've ever encountered AND he personally stands behind what he sells!

I have nothing bad to say about the collar. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a long range training collar. One excellent feature is the many different program choices. I rescued my dog. He was very abused before I got him. This collar allowed me to pick settings that would train him gently without spooking him.

This collar makes a world of difference. Having so many stimulation levels really helped to pick the perfect level for my particular dog and for certain situations where more less was needed. It hasn't been in water yet being it's winter, but it's been in plenty of snow and hasn't given me any problems.

Dog improved behavior immediately. Been training with it about 3 weeks, and I see enormous improvement in my dog. Proper use will not hurt the dog. Now we use only the beeper feature for correction 95% of the time.

Tried Garmin unit first. Well made, but would not get the dog to vocalize. This one works! The tone works well, also. Loud! The buttons, etc. are easily actuated without having to look at the unit. Garmin level settings were hard to change rapidly; almost needed two hands. The SportDog unit is great in this respect. The packaging is a bit tough to open up!

I've used the 1825 remote transmitter for years now, and it has been a great training tool. I have large dogs, and this system has enabled me to give my dogs off-leash walks on nature trails, etc! I've bought several 1825 systems, because I've lent them out to friends and family! I'm a big fan of this remote transmitter, and I'm not using it to train dogs for hunting purposes. My only reason for training my "family" dogs is for more control, so I can let them run, and I know that they'll come with the tone only, because they know if they don't return a quick correction will occur (I'd rather do a correction than have my dog come back with a face full of porcupine needles). When I received my first transmitter, I had no idea how to set it up, program, or how to go about using it on my dogs. I've called several times over the years with problems or issues regarding my 1825, and I've always spoken with a person that was able to help me. They were always so patient and would work with me to solve my problem! THIS SYSTEM HAS BEEN ONE OF MY BEST PURCHASES, IF NOT THE BEST!!!! Thank you Steve Snell & Gun Dog Supply, Laurie

This review is perhaps premature - I've only been using the SportDOG Sport Hunter SD-1825 for a week. I am having a difficult time getting it to work as it should - probably operator error as much as anything. Sometimes the collar delivers stimulation and sometimes it doesn't. The collar gives the operator so many options it's difficult to remember what to do next. Hopefully I will get more proficient with practice. I've re-read the operator manual several times - that helps. We are headed back to the woods today for more practice.

I used the SportDog version just because it had vibrate and tone. I use the vibrate as a remote release command (from stay/woh etc.), and the tone as a recall, which she is starting to understand. So basically it's a dual purpose tool, correction and remote commands. The sport dog e-collar seems well made and waterproof, pretty much everything I would want, except it could do with one more button or a few more levels. There are 4 commands, but only 3 buttons (nick, cont., buzz, tone). Not sure who missed that in the design, but seems like quite a large oversight to me. So you have to change the mode to get the other functions, which is a laborious process. Also it could do with a few more smaller steps in intensity from 3-4 could do with a level in between. But other than not having nick available, it's a great training tool. The e-collar is working well for me & my Vizsla, as a gauge of harshness, I don't set it higher than I can handle on myself, she doesn't flinch or even react on the main setting (3), I go one higher (4) when she's amped up/very distracted & she doesn't react to that either. It's not magic at these levels and doesn't elicit an immediate change but after 5/10 corrections she gets it. This is what ultimately helped solve the leash pulling issue which was a tough one. Took me a long time to get her to understand what she was doing wrong first then applied the e-collar, and she mustered the self control reasonably quickly. I still need reminder days now and again, but mostly she's good. Initially when I used it on these low settings, and she was excited, she just ignored the corrections, but slowly it sunk in. Figured that was a better approach than over-correcting.

The SportDog 1825 has worked ok, but, although I'm really careful with all of my expensive gadgets, I have had problems with this one. First, after about six months of use, I was training my dog and dropped the transmitter in about a foot of water. I wasn't worried because it's waterproof. But my dog started yelping and the transmitter was shocking my dog repeatedly, at a much higher level, and I wasn't pushing any of the buttons. I called gun dog supply, and they sent me a new transmitter. All was fine until the side button broke and fell out after about six months. The plastic holding the button in just cracked. It just wasn't a very good design. I'll be purchasing a different system next time.

I have a 50 pound 1.5 year-old dog that is pound rescue with a whole lot of drive. I got him as a companion animal and barn dog to run on trail rides and offer some protection to me and the horses. Unfortunately, his unending energy that allows him to go on 4 hour trail rides and hikes also can make him difficult to break off a scent, or stop him from trying to get a pack going. I can't have him on leash while I'm riding, but he was working on a 50 foot check cord reliably while I was hiking. So after a lot of research, I ended up purchasing the SportDog 1825. I tried out the Tri-tronics Sport Basic G3 first, but found it too jumpy. My dog either felt nothing, or was yelping. Now that I have the 1825 on him, he is excited to work and wear it. I love that it has settings on the collar, as well, so that I can use the low setting on this current dog, but when I expand my pack, I could use the same handset with a less sensitive dog. The only problems I've had is that I have lost the antenna a few times. It twists on and off instead of being fixed. I've always been able to find it luckily. Also the belt clips isn't as strong as I would like, so I always wear it using the lanyard. I love that there is so much customizing, too, because originally I thought I would use vibration and momentary stimulation, but turns out my dog is too confused by the vibration for it to be effective, and I much prefer the continuous stimulation, and now there is no need for me to purchase a different collar. This product also perfected my dog's drop on recall in one training session. Now the barn chickens are safe. I don't have to worry when my dog dives into the brush because he whoas and recalls reliably now, and my horses are thankful that I am not blaring a whistle to get the dog's attention anymore. Thanks GDS for publishing such great reviews and details too that allowed me to pick the perfect product for my needs.

Purchased this after my Dogtra transmitter decided it didn't want to work anymore. I worked amazing, and I loved how it had so many programmable levels, and the buttons could be programed to various functions. I had the side button make the collar vibrate, then I had a stimulation and beep button. Well the good didn't last too long. One day, all of a sudden the unit quit working on me within a month of purchasing it. I purchased it on 12/14 and i returned it today for a Tri tronics flyway my neighbor was trying to tell me to get because he has used them with no problems since they were the size of a 90's cell phone. Bottom line - nice features, but get the Tri-Tronics and save gas on returning products!

My husband and I have spent a lot of money on Dog Trainers with our recall challenged 4 1/2 year old Husky/Shepherd/Hound. We've never been able to enjoy an off leash hike in the woods without her taking off for indefinite time periods. Not my idea of fun!! After trying a different remote training collar that would only work occasionally and was completely useless, I decided to spend a little bit more money and got your SD 1825. We spent some time recall training in our yard, then at the dog park with all kinds of great extra distractions, and are now, after only a month of using the system, we're able to let our little girl off leash on hikes. I think I had to actually nick her only once or twice in that whole time, as she reacts to just the beep in most instances. Overall I don't even have to use any of the functions. Just having the collar on her lets her know that I can actually somehow reach her, which has previously been impossible with my super fast greyhound. She is a much happier and tired dog after a couple of hours of sniffing and marking everything in the woods. Which of course makes all of us happier. Thank you very much for improving the quality of life for the humans and canine in our family alike.

Outstanding system. Helps keep my lab from trailing unwanted critters, and he returns on first call. My Jack Russell had a habit of running to people and kids and total ignoring calls to return. It only took one day with the collar on vibrate setting to break of the habit. He even comes when he is not wearing his collar and hears the tone on my lab. It is outstanding being totally waterproof. And I can't say enough for Innotek's warranty. They went way above and beyond to help solve my problems. Even offering to ship replacement parts next day air, so I could have the my system up and running for the start of bird season. I have recommend this system to several friends, and they have had the same results both from Gun Dog Supply and Innotek. Working with Gun Dog Supply has been such a pleasure, that they are the only ones I now shop for my hunting dog supplies. Thanks

I love my SD-1825. It was a rough start, as the first unit that I ordered would not charge. I was very (underline) pleased with the outstanding customer service that Gun Dog Supply provided. I've had a working unit for about a year, and I love the versatility... vibrate, tone, and stim and an adjustable configuration. I used my collar to train recall in the field; run at heal next to my mountain bike (when I'm on my way to the single track); run at solid heal off lead, and general obedience. My dog is very sensitive to the stimulation, and I'm pleased that the unit provide 16 (if I recall correctly) levels of adjustability. My dog only needs levels 3 and 4. I've tried it on my leg, and there does seem to be a short delay before the stim kicks in, but it could be that I am not sensitive enough to that level.

This collar is great. Had a little bit of trouble with it not always getting the signal. Emailed Sport Dog and they got it all tuned in. I have used it training on dry land and at the marsh. No problems. If you are worried about the price, don't. This product is well worth the money. The paging button is great to get my dogs attention on windy rainy days when my voice or whistle won't carry.

I have had labs for 20 years. This was the first dog I could not train to a steady recall. The SportDog 1825 is fantastic. It only took a few shocks before she got the idea. Now she is excellent on the recall, and I only need to use the tone feature occasionally as a reminder. This product is so durable. We hike a lot in the Sierra Nevada, and my dogs do a lot of swimming and long distance retrieving. The unit is definitely up to the task.

Steve, I may have purchased this piece of dog training equipment prematurely. To date, I have not had to use to control my new dog "Gus";. He will be 3 this October and is a great pet. His favorite game is frisbee, but he will retrieve any toy even dive 9 feet under water in the swimming pool. I started the program, which begins with having the dog leash broken, eventually substituting in the Sportdog-1825 electronic collar. I thought it would help me train Gus to be a hunting dog, too. Access to hunting on the Chesapeake for waterfowl has become quite expensive, and even more difficult if you want a place to train your own dog. I also suffered a knee injury slowing me down. So Gus is my pet and has not had the opportunity to hunt live birds. Matt from Maryland

No fumbling with the transmitter on the go, and my pup "Stella" responds great with it set at level 3. I trust Steve's opinion on the his reviews of products he uses on his dogs. Let me tell you, he Nailed it on this one! Everything from the wide range of simulations and modes, ability to up to five more dogs in the future, to the easy to use charger and choice of contact points and collars. When I first received this product it worked pretty well. My only complaint at the time was that the batteries seemed to have different lifespans even though they were both new. I never had to favor one dog with training so there was no reason for one battery to run down faster than another, but one collar would last almost a full day longer than the other. I didn't worry about it too much since I knew the batteries were replaceable it really wasn't too big of an inconvenience at the time. My second issue, however, cropped up about 6 month later when my remote stopped working. I made sure it had a full charge and that the charger was working properly so I called the company. They were nice enough and sent out a new remote which promptly did not work out of the box. The "beeper" button would not work after I had paired it to the collars so I called the company again. They were still nice enough to deal with and they sent me out another remote that has worked for less than 3 months. Now the beeper button does not work on this unit. In addition, the battery life on the collars is about half of what they were when originally purchased. I have followed the directions to only charge the collars when needed and would remove them as soon as finished and I must say I am amazed at how short the battery life has been. I have worked in the cell phone industry for over 14 years so I am familiar with rechargeable batteries, these just don't seem to hold up. What use to last for 3 days is down 1 - 1 1/2 days on a full charge. If you would ask me if I would purchase these collars again, I wouldn't, nor would I recommended anyone to purchase this setup. This is no where near the quality that should be in a $500+ product. As a side note, I use this setup on house dogs and none of the equipment has been abused in any way. I'd be afraid to see how this product would hold up if I actually used it in the field as intended.
